BYZANTINE NIGHT AND THE CONE OF SURPRISE_author Boris Laurentiev

A hot, dense dark-red Byzantine night. The rotunda, an architectural construction seeming to come from Hagia Sofia mosaics, here becomes an element of still life while the сone of surprise is interpreted as an animated figure standing in the pavillion. This incredible synthesis is balanced by the cone and the dark carmine ball on the left. The plasticity of the image is similar to the ancient archaic admiration not of the item but of the precious material - gold, purple, jewels. The diagonal scarlet line brings some dynamics into the composition while the golden spiral, almost closing the picture in a circle preserves the energy of figures and rich colours inside the painting.
