VERSAILLES, THE HUNDRED STEPS STAIR_author Boris Laurentiev

Majestic, stone-lasting, elegant, a bit academic, not erotic in the parterre, sensual up to elasticity in bareliefs and vases, kind of feminine, light and extensive in the water parterre, odd in the Neptune fountain, rational in the Army cortyard, dryish and strict in the Ministers cortyard, predictable in the valley fantail, reserved in white sculpture biscuits, sad in vista and emptyness of distance... The king is out - here is the answer. The king is out - and Versailles becomes just a lifeless box. The scenery is vivified only by multicolor crowd of tourists and the thuya cones shadows, moving all the day round as in the sundial.
